#30 Wednesday Words: Portland Cathedral

Hello, readers, and welcome back to Wednesday Words. Do you know that April is National Poetry Month? To celebrate, in this post I’m sending you a Charlene-original poem: “Portland Cathedral.”

Its story began one afternoon in Portland, Oregon, many years ago while Hoyt, my husband, was attending a meeting at the university, and I went for a walk.

Portland Cathedral

by Charlene Edge

I found a bench along this walkway

where cool air wafts beneath bigleaf maples;

their leaves like ornaments on jet black branches

draw power from sunrays and glittering rain,

move life-rivers through faded midribs,

and restore anyone who claims the bench,

anyone who listens as leaf tongues whisper,

anyone who glimpses upward where

specs of infinity watch through steepled boughs.

Thanks for reading!

Best wishes from your writer on the wing,

Charlene
