Lately I’ve been conflicted about what to write here. I hem and haw. Travel blogs? More cult commentary? No. Today, Sunday, July 21, 2019 is different. Today I am not up in the air about what to post, thanks to a famous journalist. I am not a journalist, but I have friends who are. Like most Americans (I hope) I greatly admire investigative journalists who lay their lives and reputations on the line to get a story right and tell it. A free press is a hallmark of democracy. Let’s not forget that.
Edward R. Murrow – A journalist’s warning
Join me now in paying attention to what famed journalist Edward R. Murrow said when I was only two years old.
Obviously, I was unaware then of what was going on in my country. Today I’m grown up and trying to pay attention. It ain’t easy—my head spins like that girl’s in The Exorcist. So, thank you Mr. Murrow for paying attention back then, for speaking and writing without fear, and for exhorting us to do the same. You set an extraordinary example.
One of my favorite lines in this clip is, “We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty.”
Until next time … good night and good luck, as Mr. Murrow used to say.

P.S. If you don’t already know, I’ve deleted my account from Facebook. Both my personal page and the one for Undertow are gone. I am also no longer on LinkedIn. I do maintain a Twitter account.
