Update from Orlando: Hurricane Ian

Hi subscribers, thanks for signing up for my blog posts. Today, September 28, 2022, at 8:05 a.m, I thought I’d just check in with you before Hurricane Ian hits our area: Orlando, Florida. That’s in Central Florida. The storm is just now bringing us some rain and our power was out during the night for a couple of hours, but for now, the lights are on.

Preparation

As with any project, preparation is the key. I consider hurricane prep as a project. Living in Florida for more than twenty years has taught me a lot about this particular project, like not waiting until the last minute to buy flashlight batteries.

Thankfully, my husband and I are prepared and hunkered down as best as we can be, with no need to evacuate, unlike more than a million other Floridians from the west coast. We wish them the best in getting to a safer place.

If you’re reading this and are in the path of this monstrous storm, stay safe, calm, and carry on. We will, too. I’ll check in after the “dust” settles.

Next blog post

About when I met Salman Rushdie, 2007. BTW, he is recovering from his recent wounds from a fanatical attacker. If you’re interested in Rushdie, check out his memoir Joseph Anton. (I read it while I was writing Undertow.) It is an electrifying account/story of his years in hiding after the fatwa was issued. He did not stop writing. If you don’t know what a fatwa is, have fun doing some research today. I’ll be thinking of you and looking out the window watching hanging moss fly by.

Thanks for reading.

Your writer on the wing,

Charlene

Take care, Charlene. I’m prepared, too, as best I can.

I am safe in my condo with my daughter, grandson, their cat, and my dog sleeping on my lap. Hoping for the best for everyone in the storm’s path. ??

Thinking about you over there with the hanging moss flying by! And hopefully nothing much heavier than that. Stay safe.

Hi! Sis, so glad all’s well. I feel for the people down there. I have a dear friend who used to live next door to me. She’s just outside Orlando now. I called her today. She’s in a condo but safe and well. Sending positive energy to all who live in Florida! Love, Suzanne
