Alert for Charlene’s Blog Subscribers

Dear Subscribers,

This is not to alarm you but to inform you that a disturbed woman is sending me, and possibly you, emails that make no sense, contain gibberish, often have offensive language, but are not threatening any violence. This has been going on a few weeks.

What’s going on?

The email address of this person has a woman’s name in it, but I won’t publicize it here. I do not know her. I’ve never met her. She appears to be located in the U.K.

This woman has stolen my website banner (blue with lily pads) and uses it at the top of some of her freakish emails which are made to look like blog posts. THEY ARE FAKE!

At the bottom of her fake blog post emails, there is a link to my website’s blog subscription form.

Three times I have emailed this woman asking her to cease and desist.

How do I know she is real and not a bot?

She has copied me on emails to her chiropractor who replied to her, reminding her that they’ve told her several times they cannot continue to see her. That doctor also appears to be located in the U.K. There have been other indications of her being a real person, too.

What I’ve done so far

You can be assured that I have reported this misuse and theft of my information, contacts list (possibly) and web art to Mailchimp Abuse. Mailchimp is the company that sends out my blog posts.

This woman has also been blocked from this website.

Why tell you?

If you receive one of these weird emails, please contact me through my website’s Contact page or if you have my personal email, use that.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you, but I thought I should notify you.

Thanks for your help. Sigh …

On a lighter note

I know I’m showing my age, but remember the old commercial for a bubble bath product, Calgon? It’s still in business after 70  years. The tag line was “Calgon, take me away!”

In that spirit, I’ve been working on a new writing project: a travel memoir about our 2009 trip to six countries (non-stop), capping it off with a visit to Tibet, otherwise known as “the roof of the world.”

You heard it first here. Now that I’ve announced it, I’d better do it. My reputation is at stake! 🙂

Your writer on the wing,

Charlene

A techie friend has told me the woman most likely is not a hacker, but deranged. Therefore, my contact list is not a big worry now, but if anyone gets an email as I described, let me know.

I haven’t heard from her, but I hope she stops what she’s doing to you.
