Undertow News: Presentations

speaking to lit lunch
Charlene Edge shares Undertow at the 18th annual literary luncheon for the American Association of University Women, Winter Park, FL, March 2, 2019.

Dear Undertow supporters, I promise I’ll be writing soon, as planned, about my world travels with Hoyt, but first this note.

Thanks for your support

I’m writing first to thank you for your ongoing support of my efforts to share Undertow, my cautionary cult story. Many of you around Orlando have attended my presentations and given me numerous opportunities to share my book to inform and educate.

Special thanks to Dr. Rita Bornstein, who served as the 13th president of Rollins College from 1990 to 2004. She awarded me my diploma in 1994. In 2015, she put me in touch with my N.Y. editor. A year later she invited me to give a talk about Undertow to her fellow residents at The Mayflower, in Winter Park, Florida. She and many more friends still keep support flowing for Undertow. Visit the “Acknowledgments” page in Undertow for a list!

What’s the second reason for this note?

This has not been an easy decision, but as of January 1, 2020, with the exception of speaking with college students, I’m retiring from giving presentations.

You may know that I spent more than 10 focused years writing Undertow, I self-published it, and I have given more than 20 presentations to college students, literary groups, churches, and “the general public,” including two presentations in Europe.

Between now and the end of this year, I still have several more to do.

As you can imagine, each talk requires me to re-live the not-so-fun experience of the seventeen years I spent in the fundamentalist cult, The Way International. I am deeply affected every time I stand and deliver. All this has been rewarding and humbling, but it is time to let Undertow and my blogs about cults and fundamentalism do most of my “general public” outreach work.

How can you access my blogs about cults and fundamentalism?

Visit my website here, then at the top of the Home page, click Blog Categories, then select cults or fundamentalism, or any other topic yours truly has written about.

What is The International Cultic Studies Association?

For excellent educational, research, and counseling resources regarding cults, I always recommend The International Cultic Studies Association. I’m a member.

Where is Undertow sold?

Undertow is readily available online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Powell’s Books, and at libraries and local bookstores, i.e. Writers Block Bookstore and Brandywine Books in Winter Park, Florida.

Thanks for reading.

Next blog will be about our trip to Vienna, Austria, as promised!

Your writer on the wing,

Charlene

    Dear Charlene,
I wish I’d read your “Undertow News . . .” sooner. If I had, I’d have known about your presentation on March 2nd, and I would have been there ?

I’m so sorry that I missed it, dear friend. I will pay better attention now.

I’m looking forward to your travel posts ??

    Hi Linda,
Thanks for your lovely comment and your support.
Just so you know, I may have a few presentations in the fall, but they are in the planning stages. If and when they are “for sure,” I will add them to my website’s Events page. https://charleneedge.com/Events
